STEP to SAT
Refer to the following resources for additional support on the interoperability and exchange of STEP and SAT file formats. They will assist you in transitioning from STEP to SAT file.
STEP File
The STEP (STandardized Exchange of Product) file format is extensively used for the exchange of 3D data across various computer systems, including CAD, CAM, and CAE. As STEP geometry data is stored in a text-based format, exporting triangular meshes with thousands or even millions of faces using Autoconverter software may lead to larger file sizes. However, if your geometry defines a manifold solid, our software will strive to create an optimized faceted BREP representation, potentially reducing the STEP file size by up to one-third. It’s crucial to note that while the STEP file format supports colors per assembly, it lacks an alpha component. Consequently, any transparency settings will not be retained in the final STEP file.
SAT ACIS File
The SAT (Standard ACIS Text) is an ASCII file format specifically designed to store 3D model geometry with precision. Developed and continuously maintained by the Spatial company, SAT files are widely supported across the majority of 3D modeling and CAD software. They play a crucial role in effectively exchanging 3D data between different systems, such as AutoCAD and Solidworks. With our Autoconverter and Automesher Application products, you have the ability to convert mesh-based geometry into a true solid shape, which can then be saved in the SAT file format.
