XYZ to DAE: Resources
The following resources are provided for your reference, focusing on the interoperability and exchange between XYZ and DAE files. They are designed to assist you in the transition from XYZ to DAE files.
- NURBS Surface Reconstruction from Triangle Mesh or Point Cloud Data
- Automesher Desktop Application for Windows to Convert 3D File Formats

- Mesh Reconstruction from Point Cloud Data
Point Cloud XYZ File
The XYZ (Point cloud data) file extension is used for ASCII text files that contain point cloud data. Each row in an XYZ file consists of 3D point coordinates, typically separated by a special character like a TAB. Optionally, the XYZ file may also include 3D normal vector coordinates for each point. Our primary XYZ file converter, Autoconverter software, can automatically reconstruct mesh surfaces from point cloud data. Additionally, Autoshaper software, another one of our XYZ file converters, allows for the reconstruction of smooth NURBS surfaces from scattered points stored in the XYZ file. It’s worth noting that point cloud data may also use alternative file extensions such as ASC or TXT.
Collada DAE File
The DAE (Collada) file extension, an acronym for Digital Asset Exchange, is the primary file format used for exchanging digital assets such as textures, mesh geometries, and texture images across various 3D software products. The DAE format has the ability to store reusable geometry component instances, multiple texture images with corresponding texture coordinates, color transparency, and named groups hierarchy. Our DAE file converters, Autoconverter and Autoshaper, utilize the OpenCOLLADA open framework, facilitating seamless processing of your DAE files. This framework empowers us to read and write to the Collada DAE file format in an efficient and user-friendly manner.
