Drawing Exchange File
A universal file format for exchanging DWG drawing data between AutoCAD and other programs. It has the following features:
- ASCII Format: The DXF format is text-based and uses a standard syntax to store DWG drawing data. It can be easily edited and viewed with any text editor or viewer.
- Exchange of DWG Drawing: DXF serves as a conduit for exchanging DWG drawing data between AutoCAD and other programs. This is particularly beneficial as the native DWG file format is proprietary and requires a license to use.
- DXF Converters: Autoconverter and Automesher Application allow you to import and export DXF files, and convert them into various other file formats. ESRI Shapefile
A file format specifically designed to store georeferenced shapes. It is widely used in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for its ability to represent a variety of geometries and their associated data attributes. It consists of the following components:
- SHP Geometries: The shapes that define the spatial features, such as points, lines, and polygons. Each geometry has a unique identifier and a spatial reference system that specifies its location on the earth’s surface.
- SHP Attributes: The data that describe the properties of the geometries, such as name, type, area, population, etc. Each attribute has a name and a data type, such as string, integer, float, etc.
- SHP Files: The physical files that store the geometries and attributes in a binary format. A SHP shapefile is actually a collection of at least three files: a .shp file that contains the geometries, a .dbf file that contains the attributes, and a .shx file that indexes the geometries.
